Hector Montenegro, Ed.D., originally from Los Angeles, is a district systems development senior advisor. He began his teaching career in San Jose, California in 1975, where he taught mathematics at the junior and senior high school levels. He later taught and was an Assistant Principal in Washington, D.C. and a Principal at both the junior high and high school levels in Virginia. He served as Chief of Staff of the Washington, D.C. Public Schools before moving to Texas, where he served as a Principal and Area Superintendent in Austin, Deputy Superintendent for instructional services in Dallas, and Superintendent of schools in San Marcos, Ysleta, and Arlington. Most recently he served as an Area Superintendent for the San Diego Public Schools. He has received numerous awards including the 2007 National Technology Savvy Superintendents Award, the 2006 Statewide Texas Association for Bilingual Education (TABE) Honoree Award for Public Education, and the 2005 National LULAC Educator of the Year award.
