Carllie Jaxen
Cohort 4 Alum - 2024-2025
Her dad, Carl, was a Police Officer. Her mom, Suzanne, worked for the New York City Department of Education for over 40 years as an Educational Assistant. Her brother, Kenneth, started out as a teacher, then became a principal and now travels the country training principals and teachers around equity and inclusion. Her sister, Keisha, is a guidance counselor at P.S. 117 in Briarwood, Queens.
Carllie’s main job is drug prevention counseling. She has a focus on life skills prevention that includes decision-making, communication, forgiveness, gratitude, and community service.
She has always had an interest in the metaphysical and loves to read about spirituality and self-development. Her most recent read—well, really Audible—is No Mud No Lotus.
She is a documentary freak and has a great sense of humor. Even though she looks at life very introspectively, she knows how to have fun and laugh and recognizes that it is just as important as the seriousness of life.
She also has a talent for singing that she does not utilize like she could. She loves being creative, whether it’s on her own or with her students. She has more work to do around personal creativity, as the school gets the majority of that.
