Kris Krause
I taught at Ohlone Elementary School in Palo Alto, CA 1969-1976 and 1977-82. In 1972 the school began a successful transformative process to become a student-centered school featuring acceptance and compassion, student choice, project-based learning, and collaboration. The process modeled effective transformative leadership. In 1976-77 I spent a sabbatical year in England and India studying child-centered models of education and culture and history in those countries.
From 1982 to 1997 I served as principal of elementary schools in the Piner-Olivet School District in Santa Rosa, CA. From 1997-2001 I guided staff-development in the district and focused on developing professional learning communities. Since then, along with my wife, Catherine Jones, I served as a “school inspector” in over 60 schools in Dubai. I am writing a book on schools of caring and compassion. As a volunteer, I coach the principal and train school leaders of a school in Ladakh, India.
